The Department of History went on a historical tour on 29th August 2025 to Alexandrapur, Kathichera, Assam, sponsored by Barak Valley Cement Ltd.
The tour aimed to provide students with a firsthand experience of a significant historical site where James Winchester, the tea plantation manager, was killed, and his daughter, Mary Winchester (Zoluti), a 6-year-old, was captured and held hostage during a raid on the tea plantation by Bengkhuaia, the Sailam Chief, and his men in 1871.
The journey began at 5:30 a.m. from Aizawl. After travelling for about 6 hours, the group reached Alexandrapur at around 1:00 p.m. On reaching the site, students explored the area where this important episode in colonial and Mizo history unfolded. Faculty members briefed the students on the historical background, including the causes and consequences of the raid, the role of local chiefs like Bengkhuaia, and the colonial response that followed.
The visit not only enhanced the students’ understanding of regional history but also helped them connect classroom learning with real-world historical sites. After spending a few hours at Alexandrapur, the team began the return journey at around 4:00 p.m. and finally reached Aizawl at around 1:00 a.m.
The tour was both educational and enriching, offering students valuable insights into the complex interactions between colonial powers and Mizo communities.
The Awareness and Field Visit Programme of Rural Development Schemes was held on 29th August 2025 at the Directorate of Rural Development, Conference Hall, Chanmari. The event was graced by Prof. Lalnilawma, Hon’ble Minister, Rural Development & Administration Department, as the Chief Guest.
The programme was jointly organized by the Directorate of Rural Development, Government of Mizoram, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology (Final Semester), Govt. T. Romana College.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about various Rural Development (RD) Schemes being implemented in Mizoram and to provide students and participants with an
opportunity to gain practical exposure through field visits. Such initiatives aim to bridge the gap between policy formulation and ground-level implementation, ensuring that people, especially youth and students, understand the importance and impact of rural development schemes in enhancing livelihood, infrastructure, and overall socio-economic growth in rural areas.
The Chief Guest, in his address, highlighted the significance of rural development in achieving inclusive growth and urged students to actively participate in spreading awareness of government schemes. The programme also emphasized the role of academic institutions in complementing government efforts to bring sustainable development to rural communities.
This awareness campaign served as an important platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and community participation, paving the way for more effective implementation of RD schemes in the state.
Government T. Romana College celebrated Independence Day in twenty twenty-five at the college courtyard where the principal hoisted the flag. The National Anthem was sung at the event, and the ceremonial salutation was given by the NCC of the college. Sweets were distributed to students. The theme chosen for twenty twenty-five was cleanliness (Swachh Bharat) and abstention from drug abuse (Nasha Mukt Abhiyan). The principal, Dr. Jenifer Lalbiakdiki delivered a speech on the theme. Last year, the theme chosen by the college for the celebration of Independence Day was 'Serving the Nation through Community Service'. Professor Malsawmliana, the general secretary of the Central YMA, was given appreciation for his contribution to the State through the NGO YMA balancing it efficiently with his service rendered to the college.
On 13th August 2025, with the encouragement of the Principal, 14 students along with one teacher participated in the rally organized by the Government. The Nodal Department, together with various institutions, took the initiative under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) to fight against drug abuse and promote a Drug-Free India.
As Mizoram is located close to the Golden Triangle—an area known for large-scale drug manufacturing and trafficking—the problem of drug supply in the state is a serious concern. The Hon’ble Chief Minister addressed the students, urging them to stay away from drugs and other gateway substances that could lead to addiction.
A pledge-taking ceremony was led by Miss Grand 2025, followed by inspiring speeches from Ministers Pi Lalrinpuii and Shri Lalnghinglova Hmar. After the program, students were served meals so that they could return directly to their respective institutions. Students of the college also took part in the placard-making competition.
The Department of Public Administration. Government T.Romana college observed 'World Social Work Day' on 16th March 2026, 2:00 pm at GTRC Public Administration Department Room. The resource person was Dr. Lalchhuanmawii, Associate Professor, Govt. T. Romana College. The programme was hosted by Dr.Sakhawliana, Faculty in the department of Public Administration.
The college Felicitation committee organised a programme on 11.03.2026 to felicitate students who did well in the the 2025 0dd Semester Under graduate Examination.
The Women Cell/ Internal Complaint cell organised a seminar/ workshop on the same day and the next ie. 12.03.2026 on the topic 'Gender Equity and Sensitisation' under the PM - USHA scheme. The resource persons who spoke on the topic were Dr.Lalchhuanmawii and Mrs. Ramdinliani
On 18th March, 2026, the NSS and NCC Unit of Govt. T. Romana College and Army Recruiting Agency, Aizawl organised Career Guidance for Indian Army at RUSA Hall of Govt T. Romana college, Aizawl.
The college and the Yummy food Ltd. jointly organised Dancing, Eating and Cos play Competition in the college. Mika of 6th Semester won the Dance Battle. Cos play competition was won by Philip Lalremtluanga & Ruthi Ramengmawii
On the occasion of World Poetry Day, the Department of English, in collaboration with the Literature Club, organised a poetry-writing competition. The results of the competition were declared on 20th March 2026. The results are as follows:

A Two Days Seminar on Unity and Integrity through Culture was organised by IQAC of the college under the PM-USHA scheme where the key note Speaker was Mr.PC Zosangliana and the members of the NGO of Republic Vengthlang actively participated in it. Republic Veng the locality in which the college is located.The Thingsiri Cultural club of the college also presented a practical session of cultural Dances of the state
