Govt. T. Romana College, Dept. of Political Science and N.S.S. jointly organised 78th National Flag Day on July 22, 2024 at the College. On this occasion Mr. Lalthansanga, Asso. Professor and P.O. of the N.S.S. was the resource person. He delivered a lecture on the origin and the development of the National Flag. He elaborated on the importance and significance of our National Flag and it is the duty of every citizen to uphold and respect our Flag. The program was chaired by Mrs. Ramdinliani, HoD, Dept. of Political Science and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Mary Lalngaihawmi, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of Political Science.
A ‘One Week Workshop on NAAC New Metrics 2024’ was conducted by the IQAC, Govt. T. Romana College in collaboration with the MCTA Branch, GTRC from 16th July to 22nd July, 2024. The workshop commenced on July 16, 2024 with an inaugural session presided over by Dr. Sakhawliana, Asst.Coordinator of IQAC. Dr.Jenifer Lalbiakdiki, Principal, Govt. T. Romana College delivered the welcome address and elaborated on the significance of the workshop. She commended the IQAC Coordinators for their proactive approach and enthusiastic involvement in the forthcoming NAAC Accreditation. The first day of the workshop featured two resource persons. The first resource person, Dr. Dorothy Zonunsangi, Coordinator, IQAC, Govt. T. Romana College underlined the importance of maintaining good coordination among the teaching community and encouraged the faculty to focus on the imminent NAAC Accreditation and take the necessary steps towards it. The second resource person, Dr. Joseph K. Lalfakzuala, Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, began his address by stressing the importance of documentation as it can be utilised as official evidence in the future. Moreover, he underscored the necessity of maintaining a faculty diary for NAAC purposes.
The 1st Technical session of Day 2 was presided over by Dr Rosy Lalrinsangi, Assistant Coordinator, GTRC and attended by the teaching faculty of the college. The session consisted of two presentations given by two resource persons. The first speaker, Dr Dorothy Zonunsangi, Coordinator, IQAC stated that the new IQAC felt the importance of mobilising support from all the stakeholders of the college. Subsequently, the workshop was organised to motivate faculties of the College to initiate and share the best practices as well as to undergo the evaluation of the same with the assessment and accreditation by NAAC. The speaker, Dr Sakhawliana, Asst. Coordinator, IQAC highlighted the comparison between the old and the new metric indexes along with the re-evaluation of the values and principles envisioned under the institutional best practices. He also informed the participants about the key features of the NAAC Revised Accreditation Framework (RAF) for 2024. Additionally, he discussed the implications of the Binary Accreditation System, which categorises Institutions as either ‘accredited’ or ‘not accredited’. The resource person concluded his presentation by emphasising the importance of crowd-sourcing and the authentication of relevant documents.
The second technical session was chaired by Mr. C.V.L Tlanhlua, Vice-Principal, MCTA Branch, Govt. T. Romana College. He provided a concise overview of the College’s history relating to the various NAAC cycles. The guest speaker, Dr. Lalrinsangi Nghinglova, Associate Professor, Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College shared her valuable insights on the theme. Drawing from her experience as Coordinator, she proposed the appointment of departmental coordinators to support the IQAC and further encouraged active involvement from the institution’s stakeholders. She also stressed the importance of fostering a positive working environment among faculty members and the effectiveness of collaborative work. Additionally, she delivered a comprehensive overview of the various parameters for NAAC Accreditation and provided detailed information on how data could be collected under NIFT, and the data for three years to be kept in archives etc.
The third day of the Workshop took place in Vanapa Hall on 18.7.2024. The programme was attended by faculty and students of Govt. T. Romana College. The session was hosted by Zonunmawii. The resource person Mr. R. Lalremliana, Vice-Principal, GTRC motivated the students and used the platform to prepare them for NAAC preparation. While congratulating the graduating students, the Vice-Principal stressed the various responsibilities of students in preparation for the upcoming NAAC Accreditation.
The fourth day of the Workshop was held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Meeting Hall of Govt. T. Romana College, attended by the non-teaching staff. Dr. Rosy Lalrinsangi, IQAC Assistant Coordinator, chaired the session. The speaker Dr. Jenifer Lalbiakdiki, Principal, GTRC provided a comprehensive and enlightening presentation on the theme. She elaborated on the numerous duties of the non-teaching staff related to the forthcoming NAAC assessment and advised the participants to offer strong support to the IQAC Coordinators. Dr. Dorothy Zonunsangi, the IQAC Coordinator also stressed the various issues that require attention for the non-teaching staff as well as the crucial role played by them in the imminent NAAC assessment. Underlining the significance of good coordination for NAAC Accreditation, she also stated that every staff member is expected to perform their duties diligently, regardless of their position. She concluded her presentation by highlighting the necessity for both the teaching and non-teaching staff to collaborate harmoniously within the institution. Dr. Sakhawliana, the Asst. Coordinator of the IQAC and Dr. S.Lalnunpuia, the Librarian of the College also stressed the role and importance of the library in the NAAC Accreditation process.
Govt. T. Romana College website www.trcollege.edu.in was awarded the 10th position in the award ceremony organised by the ICT Deptt., Govt. of Mizoram for Online Excellence Award ( Educational Institution Category) on 22nd July, 2024. The college is grateful and proud to have been included for the 3rd time in the top ten list. The award was recieved by the Principal, Dr Jenifer Lalbiakdiki who congratulated the creator of the website Mr.H.Lalnunmawia and all faculty members who have helped in maintaining the same.
Govt. T. Romana College organised the Annual Fresher's cum Graduation Day at Vanapa Hall on July 18, 2024. The programme was graced by C. Lalsawivunga, Minister as a Chief Guest. The chief guest released the annual college Magazine 'RALTIANG'. He called upon the students to take part in nation building process and encouraged them to aspire for all India and central services. GTRC being situated in his constituency, the Chief Guest announced that Rs. 5 lakh had been set aside from his MLA funds for the development of the College Library.
Dr. Jenifer Lalbiakdiki, Principal, Govt. T. Romana College delivered her welcome speech congratulating all the graduating students and gave accomodation with a warm heart to all freshers. Mr. R. Lalremliana, Vice Principal delivered motivational speech and used the platform to prepare the students for NAAC preparation. Lalhruaizela SU Vice President also gave a speech.
The event was attended by representatives from Govt. T. Romana College Alumni Association, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students' Union (MSU).
This year 248 students successfully completed their bachelors degree and 388 students are newly admitted in the 1st Semester. At present 1224 students are enrolled in the college.
Govt. T. Romana College was established in the year 1992 as a private institution, upgraded to grant-in-aid (deficit) status in 2003 and provincialised in 2008. There are 8 Departments and various courses has been introduced after the adoption of the NEP (New Education Policy). At present there are 43 faculties and 17 administrative staffs. Hostel facilities is available for both Boys and Girls.
Following a beneficial and successful awareness programme with the UD&PA department, the Sociology department, Govt. T. Romana College took the initiative to hold another awareness programme with the Rural Development Department, with the goal of educating students about the various Rural Development Schemes that are part of their syllabus.
On the initiative taken by the Department of Sociology, Govt. T.Romana College, an awareness programme on selected schemes under the department was organised on February 15, 2024 by the Director, Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) at the Directorate's Conference Room.
On 18th May, 2024, Graduation Dinner for outgoing students (2021-2024 batch)was held at KV Paradise, Durtlang. Formal session started at 1:00pm hosted by Mr. RD Lalsanglura and Ms Lalmawizuali Khiangte. The programme started with Bible reading and prayer offered by Mrs. Baby Lalramsiami, Head, Department of Education.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Pu Zoramthanga inaugurated the newly constructed approach road to Govt. T.Romana College via ITI locality on the 10th February 2023. The road is 485 metres long and financed through the SEDP amounting to Rs. 464.9 lakhs. The construction of the road commenced on 16th January 2021.
Govt. T. Romana College salutes the heroes of Kargil War by celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26th July, 2024. The programme was organised by IQAC and National Cadet Corps, GTRC. It was chaired by Mr. Lalsangzela Pachuau, CTO NCC and Wing Commander HL Risanga (Retd.) was invited as a Resource Person. On this occasion, the Resource Person delivered a speech on the history of 'Kargil War' and how the Indian armed forces had corageously fought back against the Pakistani forces who had illegally occupied Kargil.
Govt. T. Romana College Observed World Environment Day 2023 by watering the trees and plants in the campus and adding manure whereever required.
